Sandy Rustin’s melo-drama-comedy is set in an 1857 Boarding House on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. As tenants prepare for a secret women's suffrage gathering, an unexpected visit from a constable disrupts their plans when a murder occurs. To evade suspicion, the eclectic group must concoct an elaborate ruse, which unveils deeper examinations of early American suffrage movements and the political forces that sought to silence feminist voices.

The play asks for a staircase and a visible second story, as well as farce-like entrances and exits in a realistic townhouse setting. It was placed in Denver Center’s Kilstrom Theater, normally a theater in the round. We removed a seating section and essentially converted the space into a thrust configuration to accomodate the needs of the play. Not pictured are additional scenic units with a parlor window and a kitchen door that were placed in the voms of the space.
